SUMMERTIME

My hat's off to our public servants. At a recent dinner given by the Northern Virginia chapter of the American Society of Public Administration, I was blown away by the passion of their members. They were kind enough to give me the Hodding Carter Journalism Award, but for me the highlight of the evening was hearing from people dedicated to public service like Fairfax County Executive Tony Griffin, Virginia delegate (and candidate for Governor) Brian Moran, the Police Executive Research Forum's Chuck Wexler, Arlington County's Emergency Management Deputy Director Jack Brown, The Washington Times' Deborah Simmons and Gabriella Boston, up-and-coming law student J.C. Estevez, and Prince George's County Office of the State's Attorney Victim Specialist Karen Bune. All exemplify what we the people hope to see in those who work for the public interest.
